Virginia State Grants
There are two grant programs available only to those students who attend GW Virginia based programs (VSTC, Arlington and Alexandria). The Office of Student Financial Assistance is responsible for reviewing applications and confirming eligibility. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) is the governing agency for both programs.
Available Grants
- Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)

The VTAG is designed to assist Virginia residents who attend accredited private, non-profit colleges and universities in Virginia. This grant is therefore only available to students attending GW Virginia based programs (VSTC, Arlington and Alexandria).
- be a resident of Virginia as defined by the Domicile Guidelines and the Code of Virginia §23-7.4;
- enroll full-time as an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student; and if in a graduate program be in an eligible graduate program which are limited to those in a health-related professional program, designated by the 51 series of programs under the NCES Classification of Instructional Programs.
Application Procedures
- complete and submit the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant application to the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

- Virginia Two Year Transfer Grant

he Virginia Two Year Transfer Grant is designed to assist Virginia residents who have received an Associate’s degree at a Virginia two-year public institution attend four-year accredited private, non-profit colleges and universities in Virginia. This grant is therefore only available to undergraduate students attending GW Virginia based programs (VSTC, Arlington and Alexandria).
Eligible Students must:
- be a resident of Virginia as defined by the Domicile Guidelines and the Code of Virginia §23-7.4;
- have received an Associate’s degree at a Virginia two-year public institution
- be enrolled full-time in a GW Virginia based undergraduate degree program by the fall or spring following completion of Associate’s degree
- have cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 for the Associate’s degree
- have financial need based on EFC limit which is set annually by SCHEV.

Application Procedures
- Complete the FAFSA using GW School Code 001444
- Complete and submit the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program application along with a copy of the final academic transcript from community college showing the degree conferred and final GPA to to the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
